What changes when you join an organization

Accepting an invitation to a Taia organization is straightforward if you're new to Taia. If you've been using Taia on your own personal account, it moves your work and your billing somewhere else, and one of the options can't be undone.

This page explains what happens so you can decide before you click confirm.

If you're new to Taia​

Nothing to weigh up. You have no projects, no subscription, and no personal data to move, so accepting simply puts you in your company's organization on their plan. You can skip the rest of this page.

If you already had a personal Taia account​

Two things happen at once.

Your personal subscription is cancelled​

The organization pays for you from the moment you join, so your own plan stops. If you were on a paid personal plan, that subscription is cancelled with Stripe and won't renew.

This is not reversible from inside Taia. If you're partway through a billing period you've already paid for, sort that out with us before you accept, not after. Get in touch and we'll look at it.

Your word allowance from that point on is the organization's, not your own, and it is usually much larger.

You choose what happens to your existing work​

Before joining, you're asked what to do with the projects, glossaries, translation memories, and billing accounts on your personal account. There are two options.

Migrate my resources to the organization (the default, and almost always the right choice)

Nothing is deleted and nothing stops working. The important consequence is visibility: work that was private to you becomes visible to your team. If you translated something personal or confidential on this account, move or delete it before you accept.

Delete my resources

Your projects, glossaries, and translation memories are deleted, and your API keys are revoked. You join with a clean slate.

This cannot be undone. Only choose it if you're certain the work on your personal account is genuinely disposable, for example a trial account you used once to test a file. A deleted translation memory takes your translation history with it, which is the one thing in Taia that is genuinely expensive to recreate.

If you're unsure, migrate. You can always delete a project later; you can't bring one back.

Joining a second team​

If you're already in an organization and you're invited to another team inside it, none of the above applies. Nothing is migrated, nothing is cancelled, and no choice is offered. You're simply added, and you can switch between your teams.

If you're joining as an external linguist​

External linguists work with an organization rather than belonging to it, so there's no subscription to cancel and no personal work to move. After accepting, you're taken straight to your linguist profile to finish setting it up.

After you've joined​

  • Your work sits under the organization, and your team can see it.
  • Your usage counts against the organization's plan.
  • Whoever manages the organization can change your role, or remove you.

If you're removed from an organization later, the work that was migrated stays with the organization. It belongs to the company at that point, not to your personal account. That's worth knowing up front, and it's another reason to move anything genuinely personal off the account before you accept.
