Supported languages

Taia supports up to 204 languages for AI translation and professional human translation services. The exact count depends on your plan: Free and Basic plans select from 50 languages; Pro and Enterprise plans get the full 204.

AI translation coverage

All languages available on your plan can be used for AI translation. Language quality varies by language pair: major world languages (English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, etc.) have the highest AI translation quality.

Norwegian (Nynorsk) needs Advanced

Norwegian (Nynorsk) can be translated with Advanced or Premium, but not with Standard: the engine behind Standard doesn't support Nynorsk. Norwegian (Bokmål) works with all three. Nynorsk is one of the Pro languages, and Pro includes Advanced and Premium.

When Nynorsk is one of the languages you're translating, the AI translation dialog shows Standard as unavailable. If Standard was your choice, it switches to Advanced, and you can pick Premium instead. That applies to every language in the same run, so the others are translated with Advanced too, at Advanced's credit rate. If you'd rather keep the other languages on Standard, put Nynorsk in a project of its own.

Your saved choice doesn't change: the next time you translate without Nynorsk, the dialog goes back to the tier you picked.

In Strings projects and through the API, a Standard request that includes Nynorsk is refused before any credits are used, with a message saying so.

Professional translation coverage

Professional translation (human linguists) is available for a subset of languages based on linguist availability. When creating a project, Taia shows which languages are available for professional services.

Language codes

Taia uses regional ISO language codes (e.g., de-DE, fr-FR, zh-CN) rather than simplified codes. This ensures that regional variants (e.g., Brazilian Portuguese pt-BR vs European Portuguese pt-PT) are treated as distinct languages.

AI translation is told which variant you picked. English (UK) comes back with British spelling and vocabulary ("colour", "organisation", "car park"), and French (Canada) with Canadian French ("courriel", "stationnement"). With Advanced and Premium, the main variants of English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Dutch, Serbian and Norwegian also get a specific instruction on how they differ.
